We are now hiring for the following position(s):
Y-PLAY ATTENDANT (formerly known as child watch)
Shifts available: weekday morning shifts from 7:50am-12:10pm (morning session runs from 8am-12pm)
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a designated area. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall childcare experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Supervises a group of children.
2. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
3. Implements program activities under the direction of the Sr. Director of Youth & Family Programs
4. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
6. Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
7. Actively engages with children in all activities and play
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school graduate or equivalent
2. Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp setting
3. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc…
4. At least 16 years of age
5. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
6. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

CERTIFIED LIFEGUARD
Shifts available: all shifts ranging from 5:30am to 8:00pm on weekdays, 7:45am-4pm on Saturdays, 12:45pm-4pm on Sundays

The Lifeguard at the Athens-McMinn Family YMCA creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Maintains active surveillance of the pool area. 2. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model; completes related reports as required. 3. Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner. 4. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. 5. Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others. 6. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code. 7. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. 8. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving. 9. Performs opening and closing cleaning responsibilities. 10. Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
QUALIFICATIONS: • Minimum age of 15 • Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent • Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date • Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER
Shifts available: late afternoons and early evenings, weekends as scheduled between the client and trainer
