Y-CAP (YMCA - COMMUNITY ACTION PROJECT)
The YMCA Community Action Program (Y-CAP) is an evidence based program that works intensively with at risk youth (ages 10-14) and their families, enhancing their mental, educational, social and physical development and by helping them reach their fullest potential through Christ. Students are added to the program on a referral basis.
To truly promote the growth of youth into well rounded young men and women, Y-CAP will specifically focus on the goals of improving academic performance, delinquent behavior reduction, substance abuse prevention and improvement of attitudes and self esteem.
To achieve these goals, the Y-CAP curriculum includes topics that enhance character development, conflict resolution skills, decision making skills, leadership development, family relationship building and substance abuse prevention among others. All topics are presented in a fresh and relevant way that will engage youth in conversation, allow them to explore themselves in a safe, supportive environment and challenge them to make healthy, positive changes in their lives.
Y-CAP is provided free of charge for program members thanks to the generous support of our Community Support Campaign, the Athens Federal Foundation, Kiwanis Club of Athens, the McMinn County Department of Juvenile Services, and the United Way of McMinn and Meigs Counties.
The Athens-McMinn Family YMCA Y-CAP program would like to publicly announce our intent to apply for the 2023 - 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant. A copy of the grant proposal will be available after April 14, 2023 at the Athens-McMinn Family YMCA, located at 205 Knoxville Avenue, Athens, TN 37303.
